Martina Magenau Jacobs is the grandmother of Gillian Jacobs. Her birthplace was Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her parents were her father, William F. Jacobs Jr. Lebanon. She's of French German Irish Scottish descent. Her family was the owners of the Jackson Koehler Eagle Brewery established in 1847, in Erie Pennsylvania where her grandfather John Martin Magenau Jr. served as the company's President and CEO until its closure in 1978. Jacobs was a performer since age eight, and she took classes on Saturdays at the Pittsburgh Playhouse. Mt. Jacobs left Lebanon High School and moved to New York City, in 2000. There she became part of in the Drama Division of Group 33. She graduated in 2004 with a Bachelor's Degree.
